Reproduction Chevrolet Chevelle, Camaro, Impala and Nova Protect-o-plate / Protectoplate
The metal protect-o-plate and owner protection plans were made at all Chevrolet assembly plants from 1965- 1972 , each book was specific to that particular Chevrolet car and no other. They were supplied in the glove compartment before each car left the plant. Each metal protect-o-plate was embossed with a specific series of letters and numbers that would show the "genetic makeup" of that specific car. It would be like that cars birth certificate. It would show the cars serial number, engine assembly date, type of engine, horsepower, transmission type, assembly date, rear axle ratio and date, interior color, exterior color, month it was built, type of carburetor, and certain options the car was originally equipped with. The protect-o-plate was used for warranty purposes and would be embossed on repair work orders and parts orders. The plate was glued to the protection plan and had the original owners name embossed in reverse on the Dymo tape. The selling dealer would write owners name, address, state and date of original sale, they would ink stamp the dealers stamp in book, along with salesman's signature.
The metal plate we use is an original addressograph NOS (new old stock) plate. It has addressograph logo on the end, the Dymo tape used for embossing the original owners name, address, city, state the and original selling date are NOS (new old stock) GM Dymo tape. The embossing dies used on the metal plate are identical to the original fonts and are embossed using the identical machine GM used originally.
With today's Chevrolet muscle cars bringing higher and higher values, these protect-o-plate booklets and affixed plate are a necessity to corroborate the pedigree and history of the vehicle and therefore are very sought after by owners and collectors.
